The Scottish Fly Fishing Co. provides fly fishing lessons, guided days and experiences across Scotland and internationally. We own and operate fishing beats across the North-east but we’re based on the River Dee, near Maryculter House Hotel Scotland, on the outskirts of Aberdeen.
Whether you are an absolute beginner looking for your first lesson, an experienced angler looking for a fishing holiday, or even a large group looking for a unique team building opportunity, The Scottish Fly Fishing Co. offers the right experience and equipment for you.
Fly Fishing Lessons
Led by renowned but friendly casting instructor, Nicol Paton, who has over two decades of coaching experience, our team offers fly fishing lessons to anyone whether you are visiting Scotland on holiday, a beginner looking to try the sport for the first time or an experienced angler looking to improve.
Although lessons usually take place on one of our private fishing beats on the majestic River Dee, we can provide tuition wherever you want to fish.
Most commonly, lessons last for two hours, however, we can also provide more intensive instruction
This allows you the chance to enjoy a mix of tuition and practical application on the river.

About The Scottish Fly Fishing Co.
Nicol Paton, the founder of The Scottish Fly Fishing Co, is one of the most experienced spey casting instructors in Scotland. He was born and brought up in Aberdeenshire and has fly fished for almost 25 years on many different rivers, including the rivers Spey, Tay, Esk, Ness, Shin, Carron, Tweed and, closest to home, the Dee and the Don. Nicol holds his Scottish Game Anglers Instructor Certificate for double handed rods, along with a number of other teaching and coaching qualifications.
All of our guides are personable, people centric and professional and have an intimate knowledge of Scottish rivers and lochs and have caught salmon and trout all over Scotland. Our experience means we have an unmatched understanding of river conditions and which beats and pools provide the best chance of a fish depending on the time of year.
